252 Badge Scheme
Introduction
Following comments from the members, and a discussion at the 2019 AGM the Committee has decided to revert to using the original Reading Archers scheme. This can be found at http://www.readingarchers.co.uk/badges/
What’s the 252 Badge Scheme?
The idea is that a Recurve archer should be able to obtain a score of 252 with just 36 arrows (3 dozen) by averaging a score of 84 per dozen. So your average recurve arrow score needs to be 7 (252 divided by 36 arrows).
In order to expand the scheme to other bow styles, the score has been averaged out to
an equivalent end total.
The awards for the average club archer are achievable, but not easy at the longer distances. This makes it challenging for all but the very best club members.

What do I have to do?
Simply shoot your 3 dozen arrows on a 122cm face and record your score either on a paper scoresheet or on your phone using 5 zone scoring (9-7-5-3-1). Make sure that you note the bowstyle and the distance you shot. You will need to attain the score three times before you can submit your claim.
You will need to shoot and record the score against the rules defined in the Club Records document. I.E. Can be shot inside or outside of Club sessions, however there must be a witness shooting with the member for the full length of the round on the same target.
The badge administrator will only accept the score if there are two full scores on the scoresheet. Scores witnessed by signature only will not be accepted.
The score must be the first arrows that you shoot at the Club at that session and you may have only six sighters. That means the three scores must be shot on different days.
The badge administrator will check that your scores match or exceeds those shown in the tables and will issue you with an achievement badge.
The current badge administrator will determine the method you should use to submit your scores. Paper or Golden Records.
Claims must be in order of distance, so you cannot claim the 30 yards until you have successfully claimed the 20 yards.
What do I get?
Following the ideas set by other Clubs, the Committee felt that it would be different to have our own custom made badges, rather than using the Reading Archers badges which are widely available. We used the Devon and Cornwall Archery Society County Team badge header and bar as a basis and created our own design.
As you gain each colour bar you can hang it using jump rings from the header. The colour bars have space beneath the colour arrow so that we can engrave which bowstyle they are for. It also allows us to use the bars for the Frostbite and Portsmouth awards, or anything else which we feel appropriate later.
What does it cost?
For your first bowstyle, the header and bars will be free. For your second and
subsequent bowstyles then they will be chargeable at £1.50 per bar. Junior bars will be
free for subsequent bowstyles. If you want to purchase an additional header badge then
they will cost £3 for either a Senior or Junior.
